Abstract

My work is rooted in the tradition of painting still life, interior spaces, and landscape. Throughout my education, I have been working from observation and focusing on the ways in which the brushstroke is used to represent objects. My strong background in still life painting and ongoing interest in contemporary and historical painters plays a huge role in my creative expression. I have united these two separate subject matters in one unified space. These works include combinations of various still life objects that are representative of the land, blurring the line between indoors and outdoors. Some of these objects are drawn from historical landscape paintings as well as from objects found in contemporary life. The snapshots, combined with books, fruits, fake flowers, and artificial lighting, staged in a sterile industrial setting begin to comment on contemporary issues of land and environment.
