Abstract
Originally, the problem investigated in this project was to synthesize and study the metalative properties of 7H-phenaleno[1,2-b]thiophene. However during the synthesis by an unambiguous method, it became apparent that the properties were at variance with those reported in the literature. It then became necessary to attempt to resolve these discrepancies.
