Description

Hylonomus was the earliest known reptile and the first animal to have fully adapted to life on land about 312 million years ago, laying their eggs on land in moist, sheltered areas. It lived during the Late Carboniferous Period (the Pennsylvanian Period). These lizard-like reptiles were probably insectivores, feeding on millipedes, insects and land snails.
