Baragwanathia is a genus of extinct plants of Late Silurian and Early Devonian age with a world-wide distribution. It was one of the earliest known vascular plants. It differs from taxa sucn as Asteroxylon by having vascular tissue in its leaves. Asteroxylon was a genus of terrestrial vascular plants that flourished in the Early Devonian Period. The sporangia were borne in the axils of the leaves which were spirally arranged. Baragwanathia had stems up to a few cm in diameter and up to a few meters long.
