The Fixation Database of Music Videos is a collection of images that display the visual timelines of music videos. Each music video is processed into individual frames, which are stacked into a grid. Each fixation displays a stripped timeline that reveals the color palette and light patters of change in the setting, scene, mood, song structure, visual climax, and rhythm patterns. The Music Video database features music video fixations from hundreds of artists, starting from the late 1970's and continuing to contemporary music videos. The fixations reveal the rhythm and structure of the music video and permit comparisons between different artists, genres, styles, and the development of visual technologies. The goal of this database is to begin discussions and investigations around the visual color design of music videos. You can browse or use the search bar to peruse the database, download the images, and explore the visual dynamics. Assistant Professor Jeffrey Moser West Virginia University
