Description
The naming of plants is an ongoing process. Botanists debate whether certain species should be individuated or regarded as a variety of another species. These debates between "splitters" and "lumpers" are resolved by vote. The Director of WVU's Herbarium, Donna Ford- Werntz, participates in the voting on scientific names. The unofficial, vernacular naming of plants, like language itself, always changes.
