Abstract

The purpose of the study was to provide information on the influence of agriculture activity participation on the pursuits of secondary agriculture students in West Virginia. Data were collected via questionnaires. The questionnaires consisted of three parts: (a) demographic data; (b) post-secondary status; and (c) grade performance and agriculture activities participation. Participation levels were determined by combining scores received in SAEP, technical agriculture competitions and leadership activities. Post-secondary status was grouped by education in the field of agriculture and non-agriculture, employment in agriculture and non-agriculture, unemployment, and military service. Students who scored higher in participation level were more apt to attend postsecondary institutions, and were more likely to enter the field of agriculture.
