Abstract
This document records the costume design process for West Virginia University’s December 2000 production of The Emperor’s New Clothes. The costume design was produced and completed as partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Master of Fine Arts degree in Theatre Design, Costume. Contained herein are: a history of the play and playwright, critical reactions to the production, a synopsis of the action, an introduction to the design process with a concept statement, and text demonstrating the final costume designs with examples of the research, graphics, and performance photographs. Also included are a bibliography, an explanation of some important craft techniques, and a project evaluation.
