Abstract
My thesis is a documentation of the building and firing of a special type of wood kiln called a train kiln, or coffin kiln. I designed the kiln using the materials that were available to me at little or no cost. My goal in this project was to design and build an efficient, user-friendly kiln, which produces unique results on fired work. Included in this thesis is documentation of the building, loading and firing of the kiln, as well as material and tool lists, kiln specifications, and a firing schedule.
