Abstract
West Virginia University’s Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering has been collecting water quality samples from streams that are anticipated to be impacted by the construction of Corridor H. With four active watersheds totaling 43 sites and 20 parameters being monitored, a large amount of data has been collected. In order to easily and quickly understand the general trends in the water quality, bar graphs were generated to represent the yearly averages of each parameter for each site. In order to understand the geospatial correlation between sites within a watershed, maps of each watershed were generated utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software. The maps depicted the location of the sampling sites, the hydrology of the watershed and the location of the Corridor-H alignment. Visual Basic 6.0 software was used to create a stand-alone platform that would be able to store and organize access to all of these components. The program is organized by watershed and starts each section by presenting a map of the location. There are clickable popup menus on the map that hold the links to the data and graphs for each sampling site. With this program, all of the project data are stored in a single location and users are able to obtain quick access to the data and to obtain a simple understanding of the changes taking place over time within a watershed.
