Abstract
The purpose of this study was to compare Resilon™ density produced by different filling techniques. Cold lateral condensation technique (CLC) was compared to continuous wave of condensation technique (CWC) under varying temperature settings and depth of plugger penetration. Seventy acrylic blocks were instrumented, weighed and distributed into seven groups. Group 1 was obturated with CLC. Groups 2, 3, and 4 were obturated with CWC at 100° C, 150° C, and 200° C, respectively, with the plugger taken to a depth of 3 mm short of working length, and then backfilled. Groups 5, 6, and 7 were obturated in the same manner; however, the plugger was only taken to 5 mm short of working length. Data were analyzed using a one-way ANOVA and Tukey’s HSD tests. Results indicated a significantly greater density of Resilon™ when using CLC compared to CWC (p< .05). No significant differences were noted between the CWC groups (p>.05).
