Abstract

This thesis, in support of my exhibition, encompasses two of my passions; art and automobiles. In conjunction with my background in automotive restoration and backyard tinkering, I transform industrial materials, inherent to working on vehicles, (Bondo, automotive paint, hand-formed steel) into processes for art making. The pieces in this exhibition serve as an investigation into the process of making, while also paying homage to the canon of Modern and Postmodern art theories and practices, specifically Minimalism, Color Field painting, and Abstract Expressionism.
