Abstract
The purpose of this research is to develop fuzzy logic cost models that estimate the cost of a component based on the component's geometric shape, size, material and manufacturing process. The research is focused on components made from high production quantity processes i.e. stamping, injection molding, rolling and extrusion. However, the method may also be used for other types of manufacturing processes. The method is useful to both engineers and cost estimators whenever an estimated cost is desired. Engineers and cost estimators may use the method to obtain the cost of components or products of similar design without a detailed estimate. The objective is to develop a cost estimation method that is easy and simple to use.
