Abstract
The following collection of poems contain mountains, poison rivers, government bunkers, coal mines, lead pipes, and alligators. Most of the poems are written in free verse, though the collection does feature a chain of sonnets. The sonnet chain is a form inspired by the chemical, PFOA, which is central to the series. The poems are organized into four sections, Day, Dusk, Dark, and Dawn, regarding where they come to rest on a hope-despair spectrum. The ultimate goal of this manuscript is to examine harm and hope through the lens of Appalachia.
