Abstract
During the COVID-19 pandemic, musicians worldwide were suddenly unable to rehearse and perform for live audiences. This, however, did not stop people from finding ways to continue making music and perform. The idea of a virtual ensemble was not new, but it was a mystery to many. The author’s own virtual ensemble, Cinematic Brass, is one of the many groups that found continued success in producing virtual ensemble projects post-pandemic. This research aims to demystify the process, helping beginners take their first steps towards high-quality virtual ensemble audio recordings. Included are equipment recommendations, examples of file organization and communication, recording techniques, and a step-by-step guide for mixing audio specifically for the piece Virtual Chorale, which was written for this project.
