Abstract
The Last of the Sallows is a novel about a woman, Adley Sallow, who is born into a family whose surname is close to extinction. This causes Adley and the surrounding characters to face pressures throughout their lives related to success, family, and motherhood. The novel features two main time lines as well as a series of vignettes. The first is set in 2016 as a third-person narration close on Adley Sallow. The second is a 2002, third-person narration close on Owen Kade. Vignettes from Adley Sallow’s life are mixed to enrich and complicate the story. The same cast of characters appear in all three parts of the story and aid in the exploration of themes such as class, career, and family.
