Abstract
Under the Broom Tree is a collection of poems that revolves around memory's function in present experience. Some of the poems paint idealized memories, experiences that have been doctored and made more beautiful through poetic form. Other poems search family relationship dynamics for their emotional weight and attempt to magnify the feelings associated with a given experience. Seasonal imagery figures prominently, with the American West, especially Idaho, comprising a harsh-yet-beautiful backdrop. Coloring the poems are anxieties about the concepts of home, belonging, beauty, shame, jealousy, and worth.
