Abstract
The paintings included in my MFA thesis exhibition, Permanent Novelty, continue to reflect the basic concerns that have informed my work for more than two years, namely an interest in the collage of appropriated imagery and an investigation of the significance of fashion and celebrity within a larger cultural framework. My intent in reworking this material in my paintings has been to explore how popular fashion texts communicate, and to examine the function of celebrities within them.
