Abstract
This novel is about a man who builds a telescope using the porthole from his father's lobster boat as a primary mirror. While he was distracted, the mirror is stolen from him, and he soon finds himself caught in an underground black market where objects of sentimental value serve as the currency (lending the novel a speculative, instead of purely realistic, quality). The story bounces between two narratives---the man searching for his mirror and the thief who stole it in an attempt to reclaim his life.
