Abstract
Fire departments are tasked with the protection of life and property in dangerous situations. Currently, water consumption for fire response is typically an estimate or a guess by the pump operator.;This thesis evaluates the use and applicability of an ultrasonic Time-of-Flight flowmeter on the discharge of a fire apparatus pump. The tests showed that the Time-of-Flight flowmeter was accurate within ten percent as long as it was at least twenty-five feet from the discharge of the pump. Pump vibration noise seems to prevent accurate use near the pump itself.
