Abstract
The First Regent is a speculative thriller that explores such topics as belief, race, family, death, morality, and justice. In this first of a series of novels, the sleeping disease has become a global epidemic that challenges even the most certain of people to reassess their beliefs, and their understanding of the world. Amid a series of mysterious murders, and after millions have succumbed to the disease, the world is desperate to cure an epidemic with no apparent cause, and only one symptom. Men and women with disparate beliefs and motivations come together in violence or in alliance. A man spouts rhetoric to an audience hungry for answers; a woman risks everything for a man who may not deserve it; a girl discovers romance and revenge; and killers of all kinds seek blood.
