Abstract
In Wheatfield, a town in rural Ohio, people work at factories and farms. Generations of people work the same land, go to the same school, and eat in the same local diner. When an economic recession hits Wheatfield the factories and farms close, leaving people struggling to make ends meet. This novel explores the tension Marci and her husband Ray experience as their relationship changes in the face of a miscarriage, unemployment and depression in a place that is equal parts problem and personal identity.
