Abstract
Sunday Born is a collection of connected short stories set on Wheeling Island in Northern West Virginia. These stories largely follow Kwesi from birth to adulthood while he deals with a plague of supernatural visions and insomnia, all while navigating the complicated relationships he has with his family. While not all the stories follow Kwesi, most of the works contained in this piece illuminate some aspect of Kwesi’s family, both immediate and extended. Through the use of magical elements, this book aims to explore themes of race, familial ties, and religion in a region not known for its diversity.
