Abstract
It Feels Like This is a memoir that begins with a great shame: the moment when, at ten years old, the narrator accidentally outs her fifteen-year-old brother as gay. The story then follows the siblings as they compete for male attention in Alabama. At its heart, It Feels Like This is trying to answer the question, “What will we do to feel love?” Or more specifically, “What will we do to feel love from men?” It is a story of family and love, of shame and forgiveness, and ultimately, how love can bring even the farthest of us back home.
