Abstract
Children of Sons is a short story collection about the things that are passed on, the ways that traumas of the past inform the generations of the future, and the systems that are in place to maintain this continuation. The characters encompass a wide range of ages, genders, and sexual orientations in order to demonstrate intersectionality and show the ways that patriarchal systems can affect different groups. The ways that these characters deal with issues of identity and self-understanding drive the collection forward in an attempt to encourage the reader to question their place within these systems, as well as how these systems might affect minority groups whose perspectives differ from theirs. With a focus on language, identity, and surrealism, the stories in this collection look to capture the strange and often contradictory emotions experienced by minority, LGBTQ, and otherwise marginalized peoples.
