Abstract

The problem involved in this investigation was the identification of major concepts in the field of Safety Science and Technology and the determination of their relative importance as components of instructional content for safety practitioner preparatory programs. More specifically, this study was concerned with the following sub-problem tasks: 1. Formulation of a list of specific concept statements based upon information and facts contained in resource literature, commonly utilized in safety practitioner preparatory programs plus additions to this list of concept statements by expert jurors who felt that their suggestions were necessary for comprehensiveness. 2. Qualification of an appropriate sample of expert jurors and procurement of their assistance in suggesting and, later, in evaluating specific concept statements. 3. Development of necessary instrumentation used by jurors in establishing the apparent importance of the concept statements formulated by the methods previously mentioned. 4. Compilation of a finalized list of concept statements according to relative importance as components of instructional content for preparatory programs based upon ratings by the expert jurors.
