Abstract
The Livingstons of Liberty Hall: Changes and Restrictions of Gender in Eighteenth- Century America explore issues of masculinity and femininity during the settlement of New York and New Jersey through the American Revolution. In it, theories relating to social order, economics and law are explored as they pertain to three generations of the Livingston family. Ideas regarding class and cultural diffusion, as well as the transformation of British colonial subjects to American citizens are seen through the education, lives and changes experienced by the Livingston family. Each Livingston son and daughter reacted and participated to the war and the changes brought about by it.
