Abstract
Now, That's What I Call Stories: VOL 1 is a short story collection that approaches the thresholds of fabulism and magical realism, examining situations which are both dramatic and ordinary, skewing the lens of real life sideways. The characters in these tales are both delicate and mighty, their sincerity illuminated by the rising stakes in the absurd worlds they inhabit: the amateur wrestler who evangelizes in the ring, the grizzled detective who struggles to keep sugar off the streets, the coyote assassin who safeguards the Myrtle Beach marshlands. My fiction is also informed by my secondary scholarship which lies at the intersection of classical heroic structure and nontraditional narratives as they exist in popular culture.
