Abstract
The prim ary purpose o f th is in v e s tig a tio n wa3 to study the e ffe c ts o f u ltra s o n ic energy upon th e flow r a te o f crude o i l through porous sandstone. The e f f e c t o f w ater flow through a porous s ta in le s s s te e l f i l t e r was a lso in v e s tig a te d . When a c o u s tic energy w ith a frequency o f 20,000 cycles per second was in tro d u ced , th e re was a s u b s ta n tia l in c re ase in the r a te of liq u id flow through both o f the porous mediums te s te d . The in v e s tig a tio n made use o f an o i l b earin g sandstone which had a p o ro sity o f 20 p er cen t w ith a pore diam eter o f approxim ately 25 m icrons. In th e f i r s t s e r ie s of rains, th re e th ick n esses of sandstone were used: 0.5» 1.0, and 2.0 c e n tim eter. These runs were conducted a t atm ospheric p re ssu re . A second s e r ie s of runs were made p la cin g th e whole system under p re ssu re . P ressu res up to 80 psig were used.
